United Way of Central Oklahoma’s WayFinder Innovation Grant funded two Mental Health Association Oklahoma programs that address homelessness throughout Oklahoma City and beyond. The first was awarded to MHAOK in 2019 for the nonprofit to provide a street outreach team to assess the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness and meet them where they are.

In 2020, MHAOK received another WayFinder grant to have a street medicine team that provides medical attention to folks on-site. MHAOK is the only nonprofit in the state of Oklahoma to have this program and is leading the charge nationwide by advising other states that are interested in implementing a street medicine outreach team of their own.
