United Way of Central Oklahoma Kicks Off Pacesetter Campaign

06.22.18

OKLAHOMA CITY – United Way of Central Oklahoma kicked off the United Way Pacesetter Campaign with its annual Pacesetter Games on Thursday, June 21 on the lawn of American Fidelity. Pacesetters are businesses and organizations that run early United Way campaigns between June and September, literally setting the pace and drawing momentum for more than 1,500 workplace campaigns that will take place in the fall. Funds raised through workplace giving help fund local health and human services programs at United Way Partner Agencies that address our community’s most pressing challenges.

This competitive and enthusiastic kickoff drew in 30 corporate and United Way Partner Agency teams participating in games including a hula hooping for the gold contest, a FAN-tastic football hike and canoe races, all following this year’s sports-related campaign theme of “Teaming up for our community!” Guests were treated to a lunch provided by INTEGRIS Health.

YMCA’s team was awarded first place champions; American Fidelity came in second place; and OGE Energy Corp. was crowned as the third place winner. The Spirit Award was given to American Fidelity for their enthusiasm throughout the event. Awards were also given to winners of the team t-shirt design contest, with Calm Waters winning the “homemade” category and HeartLine taking home the title for the “professionally designed” category.

“These Pacesetter companies are known for their generosity and passion for United Way’s mission, and they inspire others to follow their lead when it’s time for the annual campaign,” said Debby Hampton, United Way of Central Oklahoma president and CEO. “This event serves as a fun and lighthearted opportunity for us to share our excitement about the upcoming campaign.”

Last year, Pacesetter companies contributed more than $4.8 million – 29% of all United Way dollars in 2017.
