Jane Harlow

Loyal Contributor to the United Way of Central Oklahoma

Jane Harlow remembers well how she became involved with United Way. A former recipient of United Way’s John Clements Lifetime achievement Award, Mrs. Harlow shares the story of her long-time relationship with United Way of Central Oklahoma.

“My husband James Harlow was former Chairman and CEO of OG&E. We were very involved in giving back to the community through United Way because OG&E was a very large part of United Way’s annual workplace giving campaign – just as they still are today,” she said.

Mrs. Harlow recalled participating in the annual campaign drives and rallies in the early 80’s.  She enjoyed the friendly competition between the divisions. “Everyone worked hard and wanted to reach their division goal for the campaign,” she explained.

As a community volunteer, she has served in several capacities on United Way’s board of directors, including the executive committee who selected former United Way’s president and CEO Tom Brown.  Mrs. Harlow continued, “I’ve learned how important it is to have a board that represents the community at large. United Way truly represents our community as a whole and it’s the most efficient way to give. There is extensive oversight and you feel a sense of security about giving to United Way.”

Mrs. Harlow’s dedication to support the common good of her community carries on in the lives her sons, David Harlow and Jim Harlow, and also her grandson Will.  David Harlow currently serves on the United Way of Central Oklahoma’s Board of Directors and Jim Harlow is a long-standing volunteer at American Red Cross.
