American Red Cross and United Way Provide Hurricane Relief

Oklahoma City-The American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma sent volunteers to Florida to assist those affected by recent Hurricanes. Two United Way of Central Oklahoma staff members volunteered to help with relief efforts. Barbara Royce, Vice President of Labor Participation/AFL-CIO Community Services, and Cindi Fleshman, Community Investment Assistant, participated in a one-week volunteer mission. They joined a twelve-person Mass Care Strike Team of American Red Cross volunteers who drove seven cargo vans with food and supplies. Additionally, United Way donated $10,000 from an emergency fund to help United Ways in Florida. Bob Spinks, President of the United Way of Central Oklahoma, said “Our United Way Partner Agencies are on the front line during disasters and United Way staff is eager to assist them in every way possible.”

Joe Barth of the Hurricane Watch Area in Dallas, TX requested the assistance of the American Red Cross Central Oklahoma Chapter and Debby Hampton, CEO, for the chapter was eager to assist. “I am always amazed at the generosity of Oklahomans,” said Hampton. When called upon by the Hurricane Watch Area, Hampton immediately shared the mission with Bob Spinks, President of the United Way of Central Oklahoma. “Our partnership with the American Red Cross is well known throughout this region and our staff is eager to assist the American Red Cross in this endeavor,” Spinks stated.
