United Way Approves $9 Million in Funding
Two new partner agencies announced

The United Way of Central Oklahoma Board of Directors approved over $9 million in funding to local non-profit partner agencies at their meeting in June.  Funding distribution began July 1.  Among the funding agreements, two new agencies were added to United Way’s partnership.

United Way received requests from seven local charities hoping to become partner agencies.  Of the applicants, A Chance to Change Foundation and Oklahoma Safe Kids Coalition were selected for admission.  United Way dollars will provide substance abuse treatment to low-income, uninsured families through the Family Assistance program at A Chance to Change and allow Oklahoma Safe Kids to provide more low-income families with car seats and conduct more car seat safety checks.

220 volunteers representing 83 local businesses and organizations spent approximately 5,000 hours this spring reviewing funding requests made by local non-profits.  Agency requests, performance, and financial data were carefully evaluated before making funding recommendations to the Board.

Funding agreements were made with 56 local non-profits.  By being part of United Way’s partnership of agencies, these organizations voluntarily agree to adhere to higher standards of accountability than other organizations and participate in an annual review process.  Through this partnership, United Way is meeting the needs of one in three central Oklahomans each year.
