First Lady Kim Henry Promotes Success By 6®

First Lady Kim Henry held a press conference on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 with prominent Oklahoma business leader John Rex, president of American Fidelity, to promote her unprecedented Success by 6® Community Tour. First Lady Kim Henry and John Rex focused on school readiness as a critical component of Oklahoma’s economic development efforts AND issued a call to action for community leaders to join the Success by 6® effort.

The Associated Press recently reported in The Oklahoman that quality child care is becoming harder and harder to afford.

1. Oklahoma County has 57,000 children ages 0-5 and 25% of them live in poverty.
2. Oklahoma County has 1,368 child care facilities with a total capacity of almost 31,000 kids. Average cost to place a child in licensed care is $100 per week.
3. STARS in Oklahoma is a nationally recognized, three-tiered program assessing the quality of licensed child care. Almost half of all the child care facilities in Oklahoma County only meet the minimum standards for 1 star.
