Susan was more than 6 months behind on her house payment. Her husband had refinanced the home for a shorter term, but with higher payments. Then he left. A string of other financial hardships followed and Susan found herself further and further behind. A sheriff's sale was scheduled to sell her home. Susan desperately wanted to save her home, but didn't know what to do. United Way told her to call Consumer Credit Counseling Service, one of United Way of Central Oklahoma's Partner Agencies.
Consumer Credit Counseling Service counselors informed Susan of the options she had to keep her home. They helped her compile and complete required documents and faxed 50 pages of information to the mortgage company. The counselors also worked with the mortgage company to develop a program to resolve the past due amount and modify the loan payment so it was affordable for Susan. Without the assistance of Consumer Credit Counseling Service and United Way donations, Susan would have lost her home to foreclosure.
